The EMBL Programme targets mid-career professionals in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other parts of Asia seeking to gain a systematic and advanced understanding of business laws. The programme emphasizes the integration of foundational business law principles with comparative perspectives, enhancing students’ analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills in cross-jurisdictional legal contexts. Key focus areas include corporate and financial law, dispute resolution, data protection, and emerging legal issues stemming from technological developments.

• Candidates are required to complete 72 credits credits, including two compulsory courses and a capstone course in accordance with the regulations for this degree and the syllabus.

• Candidates must choose at least eight courses from the Course List below, including the two compulsory courses, one capstone course and at least three designated electives. With the approval of the Programme Director, candidates may choose up to two other Electives not listed on the Course List below, but listed as Electives on the Course List for the General LLM programme. These Electives are intensive courses offered in the Second Semester and the June Semester.

Remark(s):
• Students should also pass all assessments with a Cumulative GPA of at least 1.50 in order to be recommended for graduation.

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to the Executive Master of Business Laws, a candidate:
(a) shall comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;

(b) (i) shall hold the degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose; or

  (ii) shall hold a degree in a discipline other than law with at least second class honours of this University, or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose; or

  (iii) shall have obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University provided that in either case the candidate has also obtained a degree with at least second class honours of this University, or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;

(c) shall have at least three years of full-time work experience, preferably in a professional position broadly related to finance, business or law; and

(d) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and /or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty-specific English language requirement as follows:

 (i) IELTS (Academic): Overall band of 6.5 or above; or
 (ii) TOEFL (Internet-based): Overall score of 97 or above for tests taken before January 21, 2026; or
 (iii) TOEFL (Internet-based): Overall score of 5.0 or above for tests taken on or after January 21, 2026.

For admissions purposes, please note:
- IELTS and TOEFL tests must be taken within two years prior to September 1 of each admissions year; and
- Scores from "IELTS One Skill Retake", “IELTS Indicator” and “TOEFL iBT Home Edition” will not be accepted.

Remark: Not all courses will be offered in any given year. You may also refer to the course schedule per academic year for actual classes available.
